Why Level 2 is the right home setup in Colorado

Colorado has one of the fastest-growing EV populations in the country, and the plug-in-at-home routine is what makes ownership effortless — especially in winter, when cold-soaked batteries charge slower and public stations are the last place you want to stand. A Level 2 charger on a dedicated 240V circuit adds roughly 25–40 miles of range per hour, which means every morning starts full. The 120V cord that came with the car adds 3–5 miles per hour; it's a backup, not a plan. We install Level 2 the right way: a correctly sized dedicated circuit, quality wire and breaker, permitted and inspected.

Tesla, universal, or hardwired — we install them all

Whether you drive a Tesla, a Rivian, a Ford or a Hyundai, the electrical work is what determines how well home charging performs and how safely it runs. We install Tesla Wall Connectors, universal J1772 and NACS units, and simple NEMA 14-50 outlets for plug-in chargers — and we'll talk you through the real tradeoffs. Hardwired units can deliver higher sustained amperage and skip the failure-prone receptacle; a 14-50 outlet offers flexibility if you might switch chargers. Either way the circuit is sized to the charger and your panel, not to wishful thinking.

Panel capacity: the honest first question

Every quality EV install starts with a load calculation, because a Level 2 charger is one of the largest loads in the house. Newer Denver-metro homes with 200-amp services usually have room to spare. Older Lakewood, Wheat Ridge and Denver homes on 100-amp panels are often tighter — and sometimes the right answer is a load-managed smart charger that shares capacity intelligently, while other times a panel upgrade is the honest fix. We tell you which case you're in before you spend a dollar, and if panel work is needed we price it together with the charger so there are no surprises.

What it costs — and the rebates worth checking

Most Denver-metro Level 2 installations land between a fair price and a fair price installed. The variables: how far the circuit runs from panel to parking spot, whether the wire path is finished wall or open basement, your panel's spare capacity, and permit costs. Utility and state incentives for home charging equipment and wiring come and go — Xcel Energy has offered home-charging rebate programs, and it's worth checking their current offerings before you buy a charger, since some rebates have equipment requirements. We'll flag what's current when we quote, and our work is documented the way rebate programs expect.

Permitted, inspected, done in a visit

A dedicated 240V circuit is real electrical work: correct conductor sizing, GFCI protection where code requires it, a properly torqued breaker, and a permit with inspection. Most of our EV installs are completed in a single visit once the plan is set. You get a charger that runs at full rated speed, a panel that isn't overstressed, and paperwork that holds up at resale.
