Accessibility Statement
Effective July 7, 2026
Terry Electric is committed to making terry-electric.com usable by everyone, including people who use screen readers, voice control, keyboard-only navigation, or other assistive technology. Accessibility isn't a one-time checkbox for us — it's something we test and improve as we keep building this site.
Our conformance target
We aim to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. WCAG 2.1 AA is the technical standard the Department of Justice requires state and local government websites to meet under its 2024 Title II rule, and it's the standard courts and the DOJ point to as the practical benchmark in private-business (Title III) accessibility cases — there's no single codified rule for small businesses like ours, so we hold ourselves to the same bar regulators and courts actually use.
What's built into this site
Specific accessibility work already in place on terry-electric.com:
- Skip-to-content link — the very first thing a keyboard or screen-reader user encounters is a link that jumps straight past the navigation to the main content.
- Full keyboard operability — every interactive element on the site (navigation, the booking flow, the FAQ accordion, the interactive service-area map, and the chat widget) can be reached with Tab and activated with Enter or Space, with a visible focus outline on every one of them.
- Descriptive labels for non-text controls — icon-only buttons (closing the chat, dismissing the "need help" nudge) and the clickable dots on the service-area map each carry a plain-language label for screen readers, not just a bare icon.
- Meaningful alt text — photos of our work carry descriptions of what's actually shown, not filler text.
- Respect for reduced-motion settings — if your device is set to reduce motion, the scroll-reveal animations and the pulsing map markers turn off automatically.
- A human fallback for the AI chat — our chat assistant can answer questions and take a booking, but at any point you can skip it entirely and call or text Brian directly at (720) 340‑6364. The chatbot is never the only path to reach us.
- Legible type and color contrast — body text and interactive elements are set against backgrounds designed to meet WCAG 2.1 AA contrast ratios, and the layout stays usable at up to 200% browser zoom.
Known limitations
We're a small, actively-developed site, not a certified-compliant enterprise platform, so we won't claim perfect conformance. A few honest caveats:
- Some marketing photography and background video are decorative and don't carry captions or transcripts, since they convey no information not already in the surrounding text.
- Google Fonts are loaded from Google's servers for the typefaces used across the site; we've chosen typefaces with good legibility, but we don't control Google's own infrastructure.
- We test with keyboard navigation, screen-reader spot checks, and automated scanners, but we haven't commissioned a third-party accessibility audit. If you find something we missed, we want to know — see below.
Found a barrier, or need the site in a different way? Tell us and we'll fix it or find another way to help. We aim to respond within 2 business days.
Call or text (720) 340‑6364, or email brian@terry-electric.com. If browsing the site itself is the barrier, we're glad to take your booking or answer your questions entirely by phone.
Changes to this statement
We'll update the effective date above whenever we make a meaningful change to how this site handles accessibility.
